As part of the ongoing drive to reduce its environmental footprint, Royal De Gruijter has begun transitioning to a fleet made up exclusively of zero- and low-emission vehicles. The initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and align with the growing expectations of its clients.
Degruijter goes green as part of their sustainability plan, lowering their fuel emissions and using recyclable packaging for a greener future

A Strategic Shift Towards Sustainability

Carefully planned to ensure efficiency and reliability, the transition will take place in phases. Electric vans will be introduced in urban areas where they are most effective, while further afield the company is analysing routes, load capacities, and charging infrastructure. Drivers and logistics teams are also receiving training to help them adapt to the new technologies.

A Legacy of Forward Thinking

“Since its foundation 140 years ago, Royal De Gruijter has always adopted a mindset of adaptability and innovation to overcome challenges. The shift to a green fleet is a continuation of this legacy. It allows us to address pressing environmental concerns while ensuring we remain a trusted partner for our clients,” comments manager Remko Hitijahubessy.

“By making our operations more sustainable, we’re not only reducing our carbon footprint but also future-proofing our business in a rapidly changing world.”

Beyond the Fleet: A Holistic Approach to Sustainability

But the company’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its vehicles. Other initiatives include switching to recyclable packing materials and optimising logistics to minimise emissions during your international or national move. These measures form part of a broader strategy to embed environmental responsibility into every aspect of its operations.

Meeting Client Expectations and Preparing for the Future

Royal De Gruijter also recognises the importance of aligning its services with the values of its clientele. The green-fleet initiative is designed to meet these expectations while positioning the company for long-term success in an increasingly eco-conscious market.

“The next 140 years will bring challenges we can’t yet imagine,” Hitijahubessy says. “But with preparation, adaptability, and vision, we’re confident we’ll continue to thrive.”
